Clogged Ears? Try an Onion for Natural Congestion Relief
Did you have ear tubes put in as a child?
If you had allergies growing up, you may have. Either ear tubes or regular rounds of antibiotics (hello, side-effects!). Perhaps a tonsillectomy or adenoidectomy if those don’t seem to do the trick…
An earache is brought on either from fluid building up behind the eardrum or from inflammation of the Eustachian tube that may accompany a sore throat. If fluid has built up, chances are it’s from severe swelling of the Eustachian tube that has plugged up the body’s natural fluids. If the fluid stagnates for long, it may become infected.
Wouldn’t you like to know a simple, easy and all-natural solution that takes all of about 30 minutes, just a couple of dollars, and almost no side-effects (other than smelling like a pizza for a few hours)? Here it is.
Four Steps to Relieving Earache Pain in Less Than an Hour:
1. Get an onion and slice it in half.
2. Warm half of the onion in the oven for 60 minutes on 350 degrees, or steam the onion half in a vegetable steamer for about 20 minutes, until soft.
3. Use a spoon to “squish” some juice out of the onion. Save this juice!
4. After the onion juice cools down, pour about 1/2 spoonful of the onion juice diluted with a few drops of olive oil into the ear. For small children, this feeling may freak them out, so you could use this alternative method: take the cooled down, but still warm entire onion half on a towel, wrap it up and put it on your ear (like an earmuff) until it completely cools, for about 5 – 15 minutes.
Optional but recommended: massage some of the olive oil and onion juice combination into the neck and throat area to promote lymphatic drainage.
Have you tried this method before? If so, how did it work for you?
If your earache persists, you may need some stronger herbal medicines, which we have at our clinic, acupuncture, or gua sha (massage technique done to promote drainage).
We can do virtual consults or meet in our office for your convenience. Most cases of acute ear infection can be resolved in a relatively short period of time.
